Self care IS the magic bullet to your happiness.
Merry Christmas!! I hope you are enjoying a beautiful and relaxing Christmas morning with your loved ones and that Santa was good to you this year!
You may or may not know that I just had my 9th surgery in the last four years over the Thanksgiving holiday. I will not dive deep into the deets, but lets just say that via this journey, I have learned a few things about self care OR the lack of that which leads me to my post today.
The greatest gift you can give the world is to be your most fabulous authentic self. And let me say ladies, if that "self" isn't feeling in full alignment, that my friend is NOT your most fabulous self.
So today I am going to share with you my fresh post-op self care tips and tricks that you can apply to your life at anytime post-op or not. And they cost virtually nothing compared to your health and sanity.
Forget the kids, forget you husband, partner, forget your friends, your family, this is about YOU and only YOU. And frankly until you learn how to take care of yourself and place boundaries around what nurtures and heals your mind, body and soul, well good luck cause I am not sure how that is all going to work out for you. This is serious stuff I am talking about today so listen up and heed these 5 valuable (and easy) action items.
Run, walk, crawl as fast as you can to figure out how to fit this into you life. The ability to still your mind for 10 minutes a day will serve you more than you will ever know. Download an app called Headspace or visit the Chopra Center for Meditation featuring David Gee at the sweet spot in the universe, for several free guided meditation. Ladies this is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. GO NOW FAST! And oh Namaste.
#2 FEED YOUR BODY WELL
I am not saying to eat cardboard and tofu, but cut out carbs, sugar and random stuff you eat during the day. Drink tons of water, eat more clean protein, veggies and add a green smoothie to your diet 4 days a week. Drink a cup of hot lemon water every morning before your coffee. Noting radical just some shifts. It is NOT a diet but a choice for your new lifestyle.
I want to share with you the most delicious soup I made for healing. So easy and OMG my whole family loved it. Want some karma credit? Make a double batch and take it to someone who is feeling down, sick, depressed or just because. It will be so worth it trust me.
#3 GET OUTSIDE IN NATURE
I have to say that when we get outside and in the fresh air of nature it does something incredible for our bodies. When we commune with nature, we are connecting to the very source of the universe and its amazing energy. It reminds us that we only play a small but important part in this thing we call life. It allows us to be venerable and not sweat the small stuff. So put your puffer coat, hat and gloves on and get outside! This is one of my favorite places to get in touch with nature and regroup. If I cannot make it to the beach the mountains near my home feeds the need as well. So after all the gifts are opened let someone else do the dishes and go for a walk and get some fresh air.
Really do I need to say more? Laughing can make anything seem better. A good laugh is better than any antidepressant that I know of. So sit down and watch a funny movie, tv show, drink a glass of wine with a girlfriend and recant a bad date, read a good book written with humor as the key element. Whatever floats your humor boat do it today. Bottom line is that laughing releases the good endorphins you need to keep you sane. So do not wait and get on the laughing train today.
#5 GET YO SELF SOME GOOD SLEEP
I have been a terrible sleeper my whole life and I have unfortunately passed that gene onto my daughter Audrey. In the quest as a mom to help her, I learned a thing or two about what I need to do for me to sleep better. I had a consult with one of the nation's top sleep specialist and he told me that having kids is the worst thing you can do for your sleep habits. Funny they do not tell men that, just to lose some weight so they stop snoring. So I had two kids and cannot take that back, love them. Here are my go to sleep remedies.
