Is your face really clean?

Want a beautiful complexion? Then you must rethink how you are washing your face.  I recently had a facial and learned a few new tips and tricks I did not know about on the new trends in facial cleansing.

Did you know that sleeping in makeup or with a dirty face is one of the worst things you can do for your complexion other than sun and smoking. As I age, I am paying super close attention to my skin. I want that fabulous dewy, glowy skin as I age.  Think Meryl Streep in the movie It's Complicated.

I have also learned that your "glow" comes from the things you are putting into your body. So lots of fruits and veggies and lemon water ladies!

I wanted to give the high/low budget versions for you all so you can make the choice of how much you want to spend on your facial cleansing routine, cause, I do believe in equal opportunity face cleansing.  LOL!

First begin with a cleansing oil. What the __ ?  Yep, this was my reaction to the aesthetician,  use oil to clean my face? The oil actually does a better job of picking up makeup, dirt and grime from your face. This should be the first step in cleansing. Rub on your face and wipe off with a warm washcloth. I have used both cleansing oils below and I like them. The Eminense smell is delicuous.

The next step is to get some suds going on your face and really get the dirt and makeup out of your pores. This doesn't mean you need to scrub hard but getting some sudsy goodness on that beautiful face of yours will get your face squeaky clean.  I again have used both cleansers below and like them equally.

Now you have to choose your sudsy weapon...  I have a Clarisonic but it was too bulky to travel with so I have relegated that to use that in the shower every morning.  I still love my Clarisonic and if you don't have one, you should make the investment. However on a recent trip to PDX, I was missing my Clarisonic and while shopping, I found this Japanese Konjac Sponge at Target one use and I was hooked.

The Konjac sponge is an extremely gentle cleanser for both face and body. The sponge acts as a gentle exfoliator, rubbing off dead skin cells in the most delicate manner. The extra soft texture means that its ok for anyone to use. Be forewarned,  it is hard as a rock when you open the package. It comes in various "flavors" for sensitive, combination and oily skin types.  Amazon has a ton to choose from.

Ok the final step I use in my cleansing routine is this Micellar Cleansing Water. Micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. This water gets anything that is left on your face after steps 1 and 2 AND acts as a toner.

Once you are done, you then move to your nightly moisture regimen. While this three step system may seem a lot, it takes 5 minutes or so. And really don't you owe it to your face?  Put on some yoga music, defuse some essential oils and curate your own little self-care moment each night.
